The Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarships for PhD Programmes

The Vice Chancellor's International Scholarships are open to overseas PhD fee-paying students who can demonstrate excellence in academic achievement.

The University will offer a total of 40 scholarships per annum for each Faculty/School, up to a total of 160 new PhD students each year.

Value of the scholarship

Students in receipt of a scholarship will pay a reduced international tuition fee. For 2023/24 entry, the reduced fee has been set at £10,800 across all Faculties and the School of Management. Once a student has commenced studying, they will be subject to no more than 5% increase on the previous year’s fees in the first 3.5 years. If a student exceeds the 3.5-year period, they will be subject to the full international fee rate for the remaining period of study.

A self-funded applicant may have already been awarded partial funding from an international government ministry or sponsor, in which case these scholarships may be combined with such funding.

The Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarships may not be combined with any other University or UKRI funded scholarship.

Eligibility

All full-time PhD programmes are eligible for this scholarship.

These scholarships are intended to support academically excellent applicants. Each Faculty/School has its own criteria for identifying academic excellence, which must be demonstrated as part of the application process.
